Basal body temperature (BBT)

Your resting body temperature, usually recorded after waking and before getting up. A small sustained rise can follow ovulation.

Also searched as: BBT chart, temperature tracking

Why you might see this term

Tracking may help you recognise patterns over several cycles. Illness, disturbed sleep and recording at different times can affect readings.

What to keep in mind

Temperature usually rises after ovulation, so it cannot reliably predict that cycle’s fertile days in advance or confirm pregnancy.
