Tests & scans · In plain English

Venous blood test

Blood collected from a vein, usually in the arm, by an appropriately trained professional.

Also searched as: venepuncture, phlebotomy, blood draw

Why you might see this term

It may be needed for tests that cannot use a finger-prick sample, for a larger sample volume, or after an unsuccessful home collection.

What to keep in mind

The required tube, preparation and timing depend on the tests requested. A blood draw is a collection method, not a particular fertility test.
