Conditions · In plain English

Anovulation

A menstrual cycle in which an ovary does not release an egg. Bleeding can still occur without ovulation.

Also searched as: not ovulating, no ovulation

Why you might see this term

Irregular or absent periods can prompt a discussion about ovulation, hormones and possible underlying causes. A calendar app cannot establish whether an egg was released.

What to keep in mind

One unusual cycle does not identify the cause. Persistent changes deserve assessment, especially when you are planning a pregnancy.
