TTC & cycle language · In plain English

Menstrual cycle

The time from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. It is not the number of days that bleeding lasts.

Also searched as: cycle length, period cycle

Why you might see this term

Recording period start dates can show how your own cycle length changes. This helps with appointments and interpreting cycle-timed blood tests.

What to keep in mind

A period-tracking app estimates patterns; it cannot confirm ovulation. Persistent irregularity, absent periods or troublesome bleeding deserves a conversation with a clinician.
