Reference range

The interval or comparison values a laboratory supplies to help interpret a result. Units, methods and the population used to set the range matter.

Also searched as: normal range, reference interval, borderline result

Why you might see this term

A result outside a range may deserve follow-up; a result within it may still need context from symptoms, timing and other tests.

What to keep in mind

Normal is not a guarantee of fertility. Avoid comparing numbers from different laboratories without checking the method and units.
