Hormones & markers · In plain English

Testosterone

An androgen hormone made mainly in the testes in men, with smaller amounts made elsewhere and in people with ovaries.

Also searched as: total testosterone, male hormone blood test, low testosterone

Why you might see this term

It contributes to reproductive function and is interpreted with symptoms, timing, SHBG and sometimes LH and FSH. A hormone blood test does not replace semen analysis.

What to keep in mind

A single result does not diagnose every cause of symptoms or sperm problems. Discuss prescribed or non-prescribed hormone use with a qualified clinician.
