Tests & scans · In plain English

HyCoSy

An ultrasound-based examination in which contrast passes through the womb and fallopian tubes to assess whether the tubes appear open.

Also searched as: hysterosalpingo contrast sonography, HyFoSy, tubal ultrasound test

Why you might see this term

HyFoSy uses foam contrast and is a related technique. Your clinic can explain which method it uses and what preparation is needed.

What to keep in mind

This is different from an ordinary pelvic scan. No patency test guarantees that a tube functions normally or that pregnancy will follow.
