Implantation

The process in which an embryo attaches to and begins embedding in the lining of the womb. It happens after fertilisation.

Why you might see this term

People sometimes use the phrase implantation symptoms, but spotting or cramping can have several explanations.

What to keep in mind

Symptoms cannot confirm the timing or success of implantation. A correctly timed pregnancy test and, when indicated, clinical assessment are more reliable.
