Sperm & semen · In plain English

Sperm morphology

An assessment of sperm shape using defined laboratory criteria. Reports commonly give the percentage meeting those criteria.

Also searched as: normal forms, teratozoospermia, sperm shape

Why you might see this term

A low percentage can sound alarming, but strict assessment means many sperm may not meet every shape criterion even in samples from fertile people.

What to keep in mind

Morphology alone does not establish infertility or dictate treatment. It is different from a test of sperm DNA.
